Raising Grievance at Workplace

What does ‘raising formal grievance’ mean?

Your employee could formally raise a concern or complaint at work on matters such as discrimination at work, unfair tasks, or incomplete payment. The process is different from informal procedures because it is written and recorded, but it is still an internal way of handling issues rather than resorting to an employment tribunal.

The procedure usually provides points of contact and timescales to resolve the issues of concern between you and the employee. You must have a formal procedure for raising a grievance within your business, usually laid out in the business handbook, contract, or other internal platforms. In most cases, these procedures adhere to the ACAS Code of Practice .

How can Sharper Labs Legal Team help?

If a grievance was formally raised within your workplace, Sharper-Labs Legal Team will advise you on the most practical and effective strategy to handle it. This can consist of taking part in an actual mediation process or helping you conduct an effective investigation or grievance hearings.

Sharper-Labs can also ensure that you have a proper procedure laid out for raising a grievance within your business and that this is communicated to your employees. You are generally expected to follow the ACAS Code. If not, it may disadvantage you when a claim is made against you in an employment tribunal. We will review and verify that the formal grievance procedures for your employees are appropriate and effective, and advise on areas to update.
